They said, "You're such a happy girl!"

I wondered, "And what if I'm more?"

Hi! I'm hppygrl :) If you haven't heard my music, you can expect to hear melodies that beg you to sing along and lyrics that ask you to pause and think. I was awarded the Bob Dylan Center Songwriting Fellowship for my lyrics and storytelling. Friends in music have commented on how listening to my music feels like a “hug for the soul" or "walking through a misty forest".

Though I was born and raised in Edmonds, WA, the last decade of my life has been fairly transitory, moving often to places where I know nothing or no one. This has had a noticeable effect on my songwriting. My background is in vocal jazz performance, having won multiple Downbeat awards and international accolades. During quarantine, my songwriting began to cross the boundaries of the jazz tradition into the world of indie and folk.

My time in the mid-west the past few years has further instilled the history of the United States folk traditions. All of that, along with my academic studies in classical music composition, further my passion for melody-building and storytelling.

I aim to explore and share my experience of life, from its most beautiful to challenging facets, in the hopes of connecting with others to bridge the gap between "them vs me". We may be experiencing life from our point of view, but that does not mean we're alone in it. We're more than what we show in pictures or 30-second edited video snippets. We're more than being "happy".

I had an absolute blast opening for Jessica Pratt and Merce Lemon at the Guthrie Green in April 2025. Check out the Shows tab for more show information.

I record at The Church studio this April and cannot WAIT to share that music with you. Keep in touch through Instagram @callmehppygrl and by signing up for the mailing list.

You are loved, my friends. Take care <3
